The Special Situation of Real Estate in Northern Cyprus
Since 1974, Cyprus has been politically and administratively divided. This special situation still affects property ownership in the northern part of the island today.
For this reason, different types of Title Deeds exist in Northern Cyprus. It is important not only to check whether a Title Deed exists, but also to understand where it comes from and the ownership history of the property.

THE TITLE DEEDS
PRE-1974 TURKISH TITLE DEED
Property that was already registered to Turkish-Cypriot or foreign owners before 1974 and was not part of the redistribution of land after 1974.EXCHANGE TITLE
Property allocated after 1974 in exchange for property left by Turkish-Cypriots in the southern part of Cyprus. Previous ownership claims may therefore still be relevant.ALLOCATION TITLE
